maison martin margiela does maison champs elysées

This is the first hotel interior for fashion house Maison Martin Margiela. An interesting revamp of a beautiful 1864 building originally the residence of the Duchess of Rivoli. Margiela is in the details, and in the humor! There’s the suite where everything is covered in white canvas. There’s the suite that looks like a dark cabinet of curiosities. And my favorite: the lost moulding suite. The regular rooms are not of my liking (and therefore I’ve spared the photographs) but I find this design clever and unique. Definitely in line with what the fashion house has been creating for a few decades now. I’ve included a video from the evening of inauguration.

“we are happy to reinterpret another house for our first hotel project in paris. we have created a theatrical environment where reality and trompe-l’oeil are mixing together. the result is several sets with intertwined references giving an atypical ambiance harmoniously opposing past and present.” – maison martin margiela
